Ranking Every Premier League Manager After GW5
With five Premier League games now played and the international break underway, there is finally enough evidence to take stock of how each manager has started the 2026/27 campaign.
Some bosses have made dream starts, while others already have plenty to think about during the break.
1. Enzo Maresca — Manchester City
Five league games, five wins and top of the table. City have been prolific going forward, although Sunday’s 5–3 win over Sunderland also exposed defensive issues that Maresca will want to address. �
2. Fabian Hürzeler — Brighton
Brighton’s start has been one of the biggest stories of the opening five games. They sit third with 10 points and produced perhaps their biggest statement yet by beating reigning champions Arsenal 3–0. �
3. Keith Andrews — Brentford
Andrews has overseen an unbeaten opening five games, and Brentford’s 3–0 victory over Chelsea was a particularly impressive way to enter the international break. They currently sit fourth with nine points. �
4. David Moyes — Everton
Everton have quietly put together one of the league’s more consistent starts. Their 1–0 victory over Ipswich moved them onto nine points and kept them unbeaten after five. �
5. Daniel Farke — Leeds United
Leeds remain unbeaten and sit fifth on nine points. The 0–0 draw with Crystal Palace wasn’t spectacular, but Farke’s side have continued collecting points, which is exactly what matters at this stage. �
6. Mikel Arteta — Arsenal
The 3–0 defeat to Brighton was a major setback, but it shouldn’t completely erase Arsenal’s opening four victories. Arteta’s side still have 12 points from five matches and remain second in the table. �
7. Andoni Iraola — Liverpool
Liverpool have nine points and remain unbeaten after five. Their latest 1–0 victory over Bournemouth wasn’t spectacular, but Isak’s winner gave Iraola another important three points before the break. �
8. Sergej Jakirović — Hull City
Hull’s adaptation to Premier League football deserves attention. They have collected eight points from their opening five games and currently sit eighth — a very respectable position for a newly promoted side. �
9. Matthias Jaissle — Newcastle United
Newcastle have had an inconsistent opening, but Jaissle’s side responded to their previous setback by beating Hull 2–1. Eight points from five leaves Newcastle ninth and within touching distance of the European places. �
10. Xabi Alonso — Chelsea
Chelsea have shown enough to suggest there is plenty of quality in Alonso’s squad, but the 3–0 defeat at Brentford was another reminder that the new-look side isn’t completely settled yet. Chelsea enter the break with seven points. �
11. Oliver Glasner — Nottingham Forest
Forest have collected five points from their first five matches, but Sunday’s 1–0 home defeat to Coventry means Glasner enters the break with questions to answer. �
12. Gary O’Neil — Ipswich Town
Ipswich have already picked up two victories, but three defeats mean their overall record is uneven. The 1–0 loss to Everton leaves them 11th on six points going into the break. �
13. Michael Carrick — Manchester United
Five points from five isn’t the start United would have wanted. Carrick’s side needed a late Matheus Cunha equaliser to rescue a 1–1 draw at Fulham, leaving United 12th. �
14. Régis Le Bris — Sunderland
Sunderland have only four points, but their latest performance deserves context. They scored three times against Manchester City, with Brian Brobbey completing a hat-trick, before eventually losing 5–3. The attacking display gives Le Bris something positive to take into the break despite the result. �
15. Unai Emery — Aston Villa
Villa finally got their first Premier League victory of the campaign by beating Tottenham 3–2. That should provide Emery with some relief, although three defeats from the opening five leave Villa 16th. �
16. Roberto De Zerbi — Tottenham Hotspur
It’s been a difficult beginning for De Zerbi. Tottenham have just two points from five games and are now bottom after losing 3–2 to Aston Villa. The international break arrives at a particularly important moment for Spurs. �
17. Marco Rose — Bournemouth
Bournemouth remain without a victory after five matches. Their latest 1–0 defeat to Liverpool leaves them with three points, and Rose now has the international break to work on a side that has struggled to turn performances into results. �
18. Pierre Sage — Crystal Palace
Palace finally kept their first clean sheet of the season in Sunday’s 0–0 draw with Leeds, which gives Sage something positive to take from the weekend. However, four points from five games leaves Palace 15th. �
19. Álvaro Arbeloa — Fulham
Fulham remain winless after five games, although the 1–1 draw with Manchester United showed they can cause problems. Two points from five nevertheless leaves Arbeloa with plenty of work to do during the break. �
20. Frank Lampard — Coventry City
Coventry’s first Premier League victory finally arrived against Nottingham Forest, but their overall record remains one win and four defeats. They sit 18th with three points and have conceded nine more goals than they’ve scored. �
