Martin O’Neill and Cameron Carter-Vickers seem to be in fantasyland after Rangers dominated Celtic again on Sunday.
It was only a week ago that the Hoops came to Ibrox and Derek McInnes gave them a masterclass.
At Parkhead on 20 September, the story was almost the same, only the scoreline ended up being 1-0 instead of 3-0 in the Gers’ favour.
It was clearly evident for everyone to see that McInnes’ team deserved the three points and Celtic were lucky Ryan Naderi was the only one to get on the scoresheet.
However, it looks like the dressing room at Parkhead doesn’t want to publicly acknowledge their undoing.
The Govan side have three weeks of international break to revel in their success, while their Glaswegian neighbours stew in their failures.
Kris Boyd felt Rangers were all over Celtic once again and the scoreline flattered the hosts.
O’Neill and Carter-Vickers seem to have a different view, despite managing an xG of just 0.06 in the first half compared to the Gers’ 0.74, according to Sofascore.
Overall, the Light Blues created two big chances at Parkhead, had 15 total shots compared to Celtic’s five and Viljami Sinisalo made six saves.
It looks like the Hoops are deluding themselves into thinking that there wasn’t much in the game after losing their second successive Old Firm derby.
In the post-match interview, the Sky Sports reporter asked, “The manager felt there wasn’t much between the teams today. Do you feel it was that close today, or do you feel that the best team won?”

Carter-Vickers responded, “I tend to agree with the manager. I don’t think there was much in the game. If I’m being honest, I don’t think either team were particularly good.”
How Derek McInnes can now match Danny Rohl record
Between 27 December and 25 January, Rangers won eight consecutive games in all competitions under Danny Rohl.
The German manager brought stability to the Gers after replacing Russell Martin, but he failed to navigate the end of the campaign and missed out on the league title.
McInnes has now won six games in a row and we’re still in September.
The Scottish manager is slowly showing why Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises trusted him to take over the team, with the Govan side’s last two performances impeccable.
McInnes seems to be in unbeatable form and will have a chance to match and possibly beat Rohl’s record, with Kilmarnock, Dundee and St Johnstone scheduled to be the Glaswegian outfit’s next opponents after the international break.
