A furious reaction has erupted among supporters following a fictional post-match exchange in Glasgow, with fans demanding that Alan Shearer be removed from Sky Sports after an on-air attack directed at Martin O’Neill and his team.

Shearer’s comments came after a humiliating defeat that left supporters angry, frustrated and questioning the team’s performance. Speaking in the broadcast, the former Newcastle United striker delivered a brutally critical assessment of O’Neill’s side, leaving viewers stunned by the strength of his language.

Those  comments quickly became the centre of a huge social-media storm, with supporters accusing the pundit of crossing the line between strong analysis and personal criticism. A number of reactions called for Sky Sports to take action, while others argued that pundits should be free to give honest assessments after disappointing performances.

The biggest twist in the storyline came when Michael Stewart was asked for his response.

Stewart allegedly appeared visibly uncomfortable with the tone of Shearer’s remarks and pushed back against what he considered an unnecessarily personal attack.

“You can criticise the performance without humiliating the manager or the players,” Stewart reportedly said in the  broadcast. “They were poor tonight, there is no hiding from that, but football analysis should explain why things went wrong rather than simply throw insults around.”

His response quickly became one of the most discussed moments from the  programme, with fans praising the former Scotland midfielder for challenging the tone of the debate.
