Premier League officials have explained why Dominic Calvert-Lewin was awarded a penalty for Leeds United against Wolves.
Leeds took a giant leap towards Premier League survival following a 3-0 win over Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday.
Five days on from their famous victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, Leeds grabbed a quickfire double in the opening 20 minutes through James Justin and Noah Okafor.
Leeds never really had to get out of third gear against basement side Wolves, with the home team making it 3-0 deep into second-half stoppage time through Calvert-Lewin’s spotkick.
Incidentally, right towards the end of Leeds’ win over Wolves, Premier League officials released a statement on why the penalty went the way of Daniel Farke‘s side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty explained
The game was winding down before Leeds grabbed their third and final goal to put a bit more gloss on the scoreline.
Calvert-Lewin was a nuisance to Wolves’ backline but the 29-year-old was itching to get a goal and end his Premier League goal drought.

The former Everton man was able to do that in the 95th minute when Wolves’ Hugo Bueno brought him down in the box after good work from Wilfried Gnonto.
Shortly after referee Farai Hallam pointed to the spot, the Premier League Match Centre posted the reasoning behind the decision.

And to the relief of the vast majority inside Elland Road, Calvert-Lewin converted to get his 11th Premier League goal of the season.
Leeds can look up and not down
While it wasn’t pretty at times, Leeds’ win over Wolves puts them on the cusp of staying in the Premier League for another season.
They are now nine points clear of the relegation zone, although that could be cut to seven if Tottenham beat Brighton later on Saturday, with West Ham currently on 32 points in 17th.
But the fact that Leeds have won twice in a row in the league for the first time this season is a huge positive.
Moreover, they have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to against Chelsea at Wembley next Sunday, in their first last four clash in the competition since 1987.
They hadn’t beaten Man United at Old Trafford since 1981 before triumphing on Monday. Can they achieve more history? At this rate, they have a good chance.
