That’s the latest information from Brazil, and it changes the picture again after this one appeared to have cooled.

RTI Esporte reports that talks have continued in recent days. More importantly, they say the two clubs have made progress towards an agreement for André to move in January.

The claim is that Forest have accepted a demand from Corinthians and negotiations have moved forward. There is still work to do on the money, though, so this shouldn’t be taken as a suggestion that everything is agreed.

Forest talks have carried on

The situation looked rather different last week. Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz revealed Forest had offered €12m (£10.4m) for André Luiz on August 22, without any bonuses.

Corinthians sent their counteroffer less than 90 minutes later. “After that, nothing else came,” Paz said.

That, combined with Forest signing Gustavo Puerta for €16m (£13.9m), raised obvious questions about whether they would come back for André.

There was never anything to say Forest had signed him instead of André Luiz. Still, with no new offer arriving for the Corinthians player, the situation appeared to have gone quiet.

RTI Esporte are now specifically saying it hasn’t. Their information is that negotiations continued after the deadline and have moved forward over the past few days.

January deal being worked on

The reason Forest can afford to take their time is quite simple. Corinthians always wanted to keep André Luiz until the end of the Brazilian season. Forest had already accepted that condition before the English window closed.

The idea is therefore to complete the sale now and have the 20-year-old move to England in January. Marcelo Paz has also told CNN that negotiations were conducted independently of the English deadline because January was always an option.

“The idea is that he can be sold, but only delivered at the end of the year,” he said.

“The English window has closed. However, the talks took place independently of the window, with the possibility of André going in January. So this negotiation can still happen.”

He added that a sale would provide “important” financial relief, even if Corinthians would eventually take a sporting hit by losing the midfielder.

Forest still negotiating the price

RTI Esporte say Corinthians are looking for €17.3m (£15m) guaranteed, with another €6.9m (£6m) available through bonuses. That would make the entire package worth up to €24.2m (£21m).

Forest are trying to bring that figure down and are also discussing how the bonuses would work. That’s why the report’s claim that Forest have accepted Corinthians’ demand needs a little care. RTI themselves make it clear that the final financial structure is still being negotiated.

What their information does tell us is that Forest haven’t walked away. Corinthians own 70% of André’s economic rights and would like to agree the sale during the coming months. They need the money too.
