Newcastle United loanee Nick Woltemade has been supported by former teammate Bruno Guimaraes following his first goal for Juventus. The German was on target for the Italian giants in their 5-0 win over Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in the Europa League.
Woltemade scored Juventus’ third goal during their rout as the Serie A side had five different goal scorers. It was the perfect start to their European adventure and the 24-year-old got off the mark after failing to score in each of his first two league starts.
Both Newcastle and the Germany international will have hopes of Woltemade kicking into gear after a difficult spell at St James’ Park. He couldn’t quite live up to expectations as he was given the responsibility of replacing Alexander Isak and he found himself drifting further back down the pitch in order to fit into Eddie Howe’s squad last season. But in Italy, he can reinvent himself and he found the spot from 12 yards after leading the line for Juventus.
In a post to social media, Woltemade said: “European nights. Happy about my first goal for @juventus.”
Support flooded in for the talisman, including from both his parent club writing: “Top.” While Guimaraes commented three love hearts.
Following his move, Nicolas Jaissle said: “I really appreciate Nick as a player for his quality on the pitch but, also, I appreciate him as a human being and his quality off the pitch.
“We always had good conversations, really honest conversations. He desired to take another challenge in a top league as well with a top club.
“We will monitor him and look and see him quite closely. I’m really curious how he’s doing and I’m really optimistic he will shine there.
“He will score a lot of goals there, for sure. He’s still our player so we will stay in close contact.”
It will be an intriguing season for Woltemade as he looks to either put himself in the shop window for a move or make himself a key member of the new-look Newcastle.
Meanwhile, £51.4m summer signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo will be looking to become an instant hit for the Magpies during his debut season in the North East.
Juventus face Atalanta on Sunday with Woltemade set to be afforded his last opportunity to open his league account for the club before the international break.
His parent club are looking to return to winning ways after a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Leeds United on Monday. They host unbeaten Premier League newcomers Hull City on Saturday (3pm kick-off) with a response needed.
