England fans have slammed ‘criminal’ Thomas Tuchel for not taking a star player to the World Cup following his ‘elite’ display against Czechia on Tuesday night.
The Three Lions continued their Nations League campaign this week by bouncing back from a 3-2 defeat against world champions Spain to beat 10-man Czechia 2-0.
In the end, it was a rather comfortable victory for a much-changed Tuchel side. But while Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane got the goals, one player, above all, earned the most praise for seemingly proving his manager wrong.
This new criticism comes after the player in question was not given a call-up over the summer, when England won bronze at the 2026 World Cup. Perhaps with his creativity and ‘big-game’ prowess, they could have made it even further.
England Player’s ‘Elite’ Performance vs Czechia Proved Tuchel Wrong
After nearly two years away from international football, Trent Alexander-Arnold – once of Liverpool and now at Real Madrid – made his first start under Tuchel on Tuesday night.
While it took him a while to get going, the right-back – thrown into a midfield/winger role for his nation – sprung into life in the second-half. He assisted Gordon’s opener with a beautiful cross from deep, and caught the attention of many. One X user wrote (watch his assist below):
“The fact that [Thomas] Tuchel left out Trent during the World Cup is a criminal offense in itself.”
Another added: “Tuchel actually left Trent behind. What an idiot,” as a third remarked: “It’s sad we haven’t noticed his talent.” Meanwhile, a fourth continued: “This is why you take Trent to the World Cup, he’s such a special player.”
That sentiment was echoed by a fifth user, who said: “Trent, what an elite specialist player!” as a sixth concluded: “Look at that whip from Trent, England’s best RB. One mistake Tuchel made in his World Cup selection.”
