Shearer’s comments, described by fans as a “bombshell,” come amid growing expectations at St James’ Park following heavy investment and rising ambition. While Howe has been widely praised for stabilising Newcastle and restoring European competitiveness, Shearer suggested that progress may eventually stall without a manager proven at the very highest level.
