A Supercomputer has updated its prediction for the final 2026-27 Premier League table following the opening weeks of the new season.

Reigning champions Arsenal have picked up where they left off last season, winning all four of their opening fixtures against Coventry City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland.

Many are tipping Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea to challenge at the top of the table this season with no European football to contend with, but defeat away at Arsenal and a home draw with Hull suggests the Blues may not be quite ready just yet.

The fourth weekend’s results, following the Manchester derby, have prompted Opta’s Supercomputer to update its predicted final 2026-27 table — and it makes for fascinating reading. Let’s take a closer look…

Relegation Zone

Coventry City, who won the Championship title last season, had the toughest possible start to the season: Arsenal away. All things considered, a 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium wasn’t a disaster. That said, their 1-0 defeat to fellow promoted side Hull City left Frank Lampard with far more cause for concern. The Supercomputer has the Sky Blues finishing the season bottom of the table following their defeats to Man City and Brighton.

The Supercomputer has Sunderland finishing near the relegation zone despite securing their first victory of the season at home to Fulham last week, who are tipped to go down. The Cottagers are currently projected to finish 19th after picking up one point from four matches.

Crystal Palace are now tipped to slip into the Championship after losing three of their opening four matches, including a home clash against Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, the Tractor Boys are currently on course to finish in 16th place after picking up six points from a possible 12. Tottenham were being tipped for a much-improved season after revamping their squad.

However, Roberto De Zerbi’s side were torn apart by Brentford and Newcastle before drawing 0-0 with Forest and Everton. Spurs subsequently sit in 15th place in the Supercomputer’s predicted Premier League table.

It’s interesting that all but two teams in the bottom section of the predicted table have an expected points return of 40 points or higher – which is often seen as the benchmark for securing Premier League survival. If correct, the 2026-27 Premier League campaign will be the most competitive we’ve ever seen.

Bottom Half

Promoted Hull City are currently third in the real Premier League table after taking seven points from their first three fixtures. They haven’t lost a game yet but are expected to drop back down to 14th come May.

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are predicted to finish in the bottom half of the table after inconsistent starts to the campaign. Forest won at Villa Park recently, meaning they have a slight edge on the Villans. Bournemouth, meanwhile, are projected for an impressive 11th-place finish.

Top Half

One spot above the Cherries are Leeds United, who have battled to draws against Brentford and Brighton in their last two matches. Daniel Farke will be satisfied with his team’s start.

Many pundits and fans alike have tipped Manchester United to finish inside the top four again this season, but the Supercomputer has the Red Devils down in fifth place following their home loss vs Man City. However, PFA Player of the Year Bruno Fernandes – who scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Ipswich – will do his best to drag the English giants to another top-four finish.

Newcastle impressed away from home against Spurs, following their spirited draw against Liverpool, claiming all three points in north London. Matthias Jaissle’s side are expected to finish the season in sixth place, which would be some achievement following such a turbulent summer at St James’ Park.

Brighton were brought back down to earth following an emphatic 4-0 win over Aston Villa with a 4-3 defeat at Stamford Bridge. The Seagulls are now tipped to finish the 2026-27 season in seventh place following their 1-1 draw with Leeds and 5-0 thrashing of Coventry.

Brentford and Everton make up the top 10, with both sides accumulating six points from their opening four matches. The two clubs will both have their sights set on disrupting the top six this season.

Top Four

Manchester City still boast a 100% winning record without Pep Guardiola in the Premier League. The Citizens look bright under Enzo Maresca, with Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki flying, although whether they can seriously challenge favourites Arsenal this term is the big question. The record-equalling £125 million signing of Argentina international Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea will certainly help.

Mikel Arteta’s side made light work of Coventry City before their impressive wins against Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland, and the Supercomputer is backing them to retain the Premier League trophy at the end of the season. The Gunners have strength in depth throughout their squad and are the red-hot favourites to win the title again in 2027.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently expected to finish fourth following their 2-2 draw against Hull. The Blues’ front three of Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers have the potential to become the most formidable forward line in the league.

Liverpool place third in the predicted table even after a disappointing home draw with Fulham. There’s plenty of work for Andoni Iraola to do at Anfield this season, but having Alexander Isak, who has three goals in four games, in form will certainly help.
