Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the China Open due to a foot injury. Raducanu, who has faced a series of injuries since her 2021 US Open win, sustained the latest injury in the Korea Open quarter-finals while playing against Daria Kasatkina.
The 21-year-old Brit, currently ranked 54th, sprained ligaments in her foot and said she needs more time to recover, expressing her hope to return to competition soon.
Other high-profile players, including former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, world number one Iga Swiatek, and three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur, have also decided to skip the WTA 1000 event in Beijing, which runs from September 25 to October 6.
In the men’s ATP 500 event, world number two Alexander Zverev pulled out due to pneumonia after helping Team Europe secure a victory in the Laver Cup. The China Open draw will feature four of the top six men’s players, including world number one Jannik Sinner.
