The key moments from the Stadium of Light…

8: BIG CHANCE! Terrible first touch by Danso allows Gomez in on goal, but Roefs does well to stand up tall and make a block.

22: POST! Xhaka feeds Le Fee in space down the left and from his pull back, Isidor’s effort is deflected on to the outside of the near post with Verbruggen at full stretch.

45+2: POST! Gross curls a free kick into the heart of the hosts’ area and the totally unmarked Struijk plants a header on to the foot of the post with Roefs motionless.

53: GOAL! The visitors lead as De Cuyper, in acres of space in the box after being found by Gross, drills a low shot past Roefs at his near post after the hosts failed to deal with a long throw.

57: RED CARD! On review, referee Bramall decides Struijk has pulled Isidor to the ground as the striker broke clear on goal and issues a straight red.

90+3: GOAL! Hadjam finds the net after a brilliant counter involving Rutter, who initially does well to hold the ball up, before feeding his fellow sub in space in the box and from a tight angle the Algerian finds the bottom righthand corner.

Report: Ten-player Brighton win at Sunderland to stay third

High-flying Brighton and Hove Albion won 2-0 at Sunderland to make it three straight Premier League wins without conceding despite having to play more than half an hour with ten men.

The key numbers from the Stadium of Light

  • Brighton and Hove Albion have won three successive matches without conceding for just the second ever time in the Premier League, after also doing so in October 2018 under Chris Hughton.
  • Sunderland have lost back-to-back Premier League home games without scoring for the first time since April/May 2017, with this the first time they have lost two of their opening three home matches of a league season since 2017-18 (also L2).
  • Aged 35 years and 117 days, Pascal Groß is the oldest player to provide an assist in three successive Premier League games since Ryan Giggs in February 2012 (38y 68d).
  • This is the first time in 17 Premier League games that Sunderland have suffered a defeat when their opponent has received a red card (W11 D5), since Arsenal won 1-0 vs the Black Cats in February 2013.
  • Brighton and Hove Albion’s Maxim De Cuyper has been directly involved in seven goals across his last 11 Premier League games (2 goals, 5 assists), after managing just two contributions in his 25 previous top-flight appearances (2 goals).
  • Pascal Struijk is the third Dutchman to receive a Premier League red card for Brighton and Hove Albion (also Jan Paul van Hecke and Davy Pröpper), with no nation having more players sent off for the Seagulls in the competition (England, also 3).
  • This is just the fifth ever Premier League game to not feature a single English starter, and second in the competition this calendar year – after Sunderland vs Liverpool in February.
