Nottingham Forest have confirmed their first signing of the summer – with teenager Boyd Fraser joining from Hearts.
The 16-year-old still has a long way to go to make Oliver Glasner’s first team but has joined the Reds as a first-year scholar subject to international clearance.
Forest describe Fraser as a ‘coveted midfielder’ and as part of the Hearts side which last season won their first Scottish FA Youth Cup in 26 years. He has also played for Scotland’s Under-16s.
Head of Academy, Chris McGuane, told the Reds website: “It is fantastic that we have been able to bring Boyd to Nottingham Forest. He is a player we have thought of highly and monitored his journey closely both at Hearts and when he has captained Scotland in international fixtures.”
Reports suggested Southampton were closing in on Fraser’s signing, Crystal Palace and Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and Rangers were also linked.
“He possesses real quality in possession and is an exciting player that will join our Under-18 squad ahead of the new season. Credit goes to our Scotland scout John McKenna in identifying Boyd and supporting with his transition to Nottingham. We wish Boyd all the best with his journey at the club.”
Hearts have seen several youngsters leave Tynecastle this summer, with Alfie Osborne set to move to Chelsea and Keir McMeekin ‘en route’ to Manchester City.
