Nottingham Forest started their summer work earlier this week by announcing four senior players are to leave the club.

Goalkeepers Stefan Ortega and Angus Gunn and defender Willy Boly will depart the City Ground when their contracts expire on June 30. Meanwhile, striker Lorenzo Lucca will return to Napoli after the option to turn his loan into a permanent move was not taken up.

It means the starting gun has now been fired on an important transfer window for the Reds. Premier League clubs can officially begin doing business on Monday (June 15) and will have until 11pm on September 1 to get deals done.

For Forest, there is plenty riding on making the right decisions. Vitor Pereira’s squad does not require too much work but the Portuguese will want to have sufficient resources to challenge for a return to European football.

The Reds may well soon have a substantial cash pot to play with, if Manchester City stump up a huge fee to sign Elliot Anderson. But they have also not been averse to hunting out a few bargains in the past.
