Newcastle United are reportedly in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over William Osula’s departure
Newcastle United striker William Osula has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with German side Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of a January move.
That’s according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who claims the 22-year-old Danish forward is keen on a move to the Bundesliga club.
The report claims Frankfurt are keen on a loan deal with an option to buy Osula, who has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring three times and notching one assist in just 344 minutes of football.
Frankfurt has an impressive track record of unearthing talents and selling them on for huge sums, with Randal Kolo Muani and Omar Marmoush among those to have secured big-money moves after starring for the German club.
The Bundesliga side are reportedly confident of a €20m option to buy [£17.6m], with a loan fee of €3m [2.6m]. The 22-year-old came close to leaving St. James’ Park in the summer, with Frankfurt keen on signing Osula earlier this season.
Newcastle and Frankfurt are said to still be in contact, but have not reached an agreement.
The youngster has had to bide his time to lead the line with both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak ahead of him in the pecking order following his arrival from Sheffield United back in 2024.
The arrivals of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have added further competition for places and Osula has been unable to make the striker position his own.
Speaking about a potential move for Osula last summer, Eddie Howe revealed: “I think it was well documented.
“It was quite close for him that he could have left in a variety of ways, whether that was loan, which was always our preference because I think from our view, we wanted Will to play.
“We wanted him to continue his development, which he did brilliantly last year because I think he committed to a path of limited game time but big training time.
“A lot of work with Graeme Jones, a lot of reviewing his performances, then a lot of putting work into action.
“The next step for me was for him to try and play regularly. So that was the aim, and especially with us bringing two strikers in, the thought was that he could continue that development best on the football pitch.
“Obviously it didn’t happen, and much to our relief it didn’t happen, because obviously Yoane picked up an injury and Will’s vitally important. We believe in his talents.”
