Sunderland have completed a new signing as fresh claims emerge over Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Sunderland have reportedly been handed fresh encouragement over a possible move for Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

The Black Cats were linked with the Cameroon international last summer following their return to the Premier League, with reports at the time suggesting Sunderland explored a move for the former Fulham man. Zambo Anguissa ultimately remained in Naples, having played an important role in Napoli’s second Serie A title win in three years.

According to reports in Italy, however, the situation could be different this summer. Il Mattino claims Napoli could be open to selling a number of players to Premier League clubs, with Zambo Anguissa among those whose future may come under consideration. The report adds that Sunderland would not find the door closed if they returned for the 30-year-old, whose contract runs until 2027.

That could make this summer an important window for Napoli if they are to secure a significant fee, while it is also claimed the player’s family remain open to a return to England. Zambo Anguissa has Premier League experience from his time at Fulham. There would be obvious considerations, not least his recent fitness record, but his contract situation could make him an interesting name to monitor if Sunderland look to strengthen centrally.

In other news, Sunderland have added promising youngster Jack Campbell to their academy set-up. The teenager, who previously played for Berwick Rangers up to under-14 level, has signed a two-year deal with the Black Cats after impressing during a 12-week trial on Wearside earlier this season.
