Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a deal for Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson.

The Reds have already rebuffed two bids from City for their star man. The most recent offer was worth more than £120 million, made up of £106m up front and £15m worth of add-ons.

Forest are said to want in the region of £130m for the midfielder. Such a fee would represent a British transfer record, breaking the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer.

Anderson is currently on duty with England at the World Cup and played a key role in their midweek victory over Croatia as they made a winning start to the competition. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, there is the possibility the 23-year-old could undergo a medical in America as City continue to push for an agreement to be reached.

Romano posted on X: “Manchester City are confident to get Elliot Anderson deal done, now at the final stages after work behind the scenes. New round of talks to take place for the English midfielder who would undergo medical in the US before joining #MCFC if all goes to plan.”

Anderson chipped in with an assist for his country in Dallas on Wednesday. Making his World Cup debut, he set up Jude Bellingham for the Three Lions’ third goal as they triumphed 4-2.

City had been hoping to secure the former Newcastle United man’s signature before the tournament kicked off. However, the Reds will be well aware there is every chance their prized asset’s value could increase with strong performances on the global stage.

Prior to England’s opener, boss Thomas Tuchel had said Anderson had shown no signs of being distracted by the speculation about his future. He argued, if anything the transfer talk was spurring the Forest star on.

Speaking after news of City’s second bid had emerged, Tuchel had said: “He’s a top player. There’s nothing more to say, he’s the full package. I’m happy that he’s with us on that kind of level and he’s a key player for us.

“The bid? No comment! He seems not affected. I won’t speak to him about it. My assistant coach spoke with him about it but I won’t. It should push him because it’s proof of what he’s capable to do and what level he can perform. At the moment it seems like a push for him.”

Tuchel added: “Even if a transfer is completed, hopefully he stays the same person. Nothing will change overnight with him if he wakes up, he’s not a new player.

“People will try to hang around his neck this price but in reality nothing changes. He just changes the club, that’s the rules of the game.

“Hopefully he just stays the same – a humble, determined, hungry football player. Absolutely, he is very level-headed.

“I hope it boosts his confidence (if it happens). I don’t want to go into it too much if it’s a boost or not a boost – what I see on the training pitch is no distractions, full commitment, that’s what comes from him.”
