“A goal or an assist is expected of me in every game. But if I’m not playing in attack, it’s significantly more difficult for me to get into dangerous scoring positions.
“The intensity of the criticism and the resulting unrest surrounding me have certainly surprised me.”
Woltemade’s comments underlined his desire to play further forward while also acknowledging that he had been asked to operate in a variety of positions for Newcastle. Throughout the previous season, he featured in attack, midfield, and even in a deeper defensive midfield role when required, demonstrating his willingness to help the team wherever he was needed.
