Leeds United ‘real interest’ in €30-40m arrival – Everton transfer fight possible
Leeds United and Everton are chasing VfL Wolfsburg’s Mohamed Amoura ahead of the summer.
The Whites tried to sign the striker in the winter market and Sport Witness relayed news in January of Leeds United’s interest.
It’s unclear why Daniel Farke’s side couldn’t complete the operation and are still keen on the striker. Everton now join the Elland Road club in the transfer chase.
The Bundesliga side initially signed the 25-year-old from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on loan in July 2024. He managed 10 goals and 12 assists in his debut season, convincing them to make his stay permanent.
This season, Amoura has scored eight goals and contributed three assists from 27 matches. His Bundesliga stats are as follows:
- Appearances: 26
- Starts: 21
- Total minutes: 1,782
- Minutes per game: 69
- Expected Goals: 8.45
- Expected Goals: 2.48
Leeds United and Everton keen
The Whites haven’t forgotten about their January target and now face competition from Everton.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who report Leeds United showed ‘real interest’ in January and still maintain it ahead of the summer window.
David Moyes’ side are also interested and that’s all the newspaper has to say about the Toffees.
VfL Wolfsburg rejected Benfica’s €28m bid for Mohamed Amoura in the last window and are hoping to collect €40m. The Algeria international’s value is now thought to be around €30m.
L’Equipe claim the German club are ‘ready to discuss’ about his sale after this season.
To sum it up, there’s expectation for the frontman to change clubs and Leeds United and Everton are his suitors. There’s no mention of his preference among these two clubs.
Our take: Price could drop further
Mohamed Amoura has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €27m. VfL Wolfsburg are now 17th in the table, four points behind 16th placed FC St. Pauli.
There are 18 clubs in the Bundesliga and bottom two teams will drop down to the second division. As things stand, Wolfsburg face risk of relegation.
If that were to happen, his price is likely to drop further. Leeds United, Everton or another club can take advantage of this to sign Amoura for less than €30m.
