The Rangers legend — beloved by the Ibrox faithful, deeply mistrusted by Celtic supporters — found himself at the centre of a social media storm as clips from post-match coverage circulated widely online. For Celtic fans, what they witnessed was not balanced analysis, but the latest chapter in what they describe as a long-running pattern of dismissiveness toward their club’s achievements.
The frustration did not emerge in a vacuum. Celtic fan writers and supporter blogs have spent months documenting what they consider a structural anti-Celtic bias within Scottish football media. Into this already charged atmosphere stepped Kris Boyd — a figure who requires little introduction to Celtic supporters. The former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker, who has clashed publicly and bitterly with the Celtic support on multiple occasions, was widely shared across social media platforms following comments that Celtic fans felt were deliberately inflammatory in the wake of their cup triumph. Clips of Boyd’s response were shared tens of thousands of times within hours, with Celtic fans and neutrals alike piling in.
