England Fans Claim Alex Scott Made Teammate ‘Look Like a Pub Player’ vs Croatia
In their third Nations League game of the international break, England took on Croatia in Rijeka. The Three Lions were on fire as they won the match 7-0.
Thomas Tuchel’s men lost 3-2 to Spain in their opening game before then beating Czechia 2-0. After thumping Croatia 4-2 at the World Cup, they would have entered this fixture with confidence and got off to a strong start, as Harry Kane found the back of the net with the Three Lions’ first shot of the game.
In the 21st minute, England were able to double their lead, with Anthony Gordon doing particularly well to keep the ball alive and set up Jude Bellingham, with the Real Madrid ace poking home from close range. Gordon then got on the score sheet with another flying header, having scored in similar fashion vs Czechia.
Before the break, the Three Lions had made it 4-0. Bellingham and Gordon were involved again, with Bukayo Saka the man to score this time. Kane got another early into the second half before setting up Saka to make it 6-0 in the 68th minute. Morgan Rogers later came off the bench and made it 7-0.
Alex Scott Shines vs Croatia
Alex Scott made his debut off the bench against Czechia and was rewarded with his first start in the very next game. While some players can take a little time to adapt to international football, the Bournemouth midfielder was typically tidy as he showed the sort of on-ball quality which has made him one of the brightest young talents in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old played 70 minutes and, per SofaScore, completed 92% of his passes from 81 touches, while also having 19 carries as he looked very busy in the middle of the park. He also helped England stay on the front foot with one interception, three recoveries and two out of three attempted tackles won.
All in all, it was a very impressive full debut from Scott, emphasised by the dominant scoreline.
England Fans Blown Away By Alex Scott
England fans were really impressed by Scott’s efforts on his full debut for the Three Lions. One said: “45 mins of Alex Scott and we’re witnessing one of the greatest halves in English footballing history.”
Another wrote: “Alex Scott is a serious player.” While a third said: Alex Scott is special.”
Interestingly enough, some used it as an opportunity to raise some doubts about Elliot Anderson. Many seemed to think Scott should now become Declan Rice’s first-choice midfield partner for England. One wrote:
“Bored of saying it but Alex Scott is a heck of a footballer. If we see Rice and Anderson again, I don’t know what to say.”
On that theme, another added: “Said it countless times there’s no need for a Rice x Anderson pivot unless you want stale football. Alex Scott is a breath of fresh air.” While someone else said: “Alex Scott is a better player than Elliot Anderson. Not even controversial. He needs to play.”
Another wrote: “Alex Scott should also be an absolute staple in any England camp too, unbelievable player”
A little more harshly, someone else said:
“Alex Scott makes Anderson look like a pub player…quality.”
But they weren’t alone, with someone replying: “Totally agree. Anderson is honest and very hard working, but I don’t get the hype at all. Scott looks a real player.”
