LeBron James Compares Hisself to the Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clarke
After the Fever’s season ended, LeBron James offered his candid thoughts on why he holds rookie Caitlin Clark in such high regard.
“I have a lot of respect for Caitlin Clark because I understand what it’s like to be drafted, become the face of a franchise, and face criticism from those who think you’re not ready for the next step,” LeBron shared with Esquire. “I remember being 18, coming into the league with so many doubting me, hoping I’d fail.

Watching Caitlin go through something similar, I’ve supported her from the start because I know what that feels like. She’s a transcendent talent, and we saw that at Iowa. I knew it would translate to the big leagues. She’s incredible to watch.”
It’s no surprise LeBron relates to Clark’s journey.
When the Cavaliers drafted him first overall in 2003, they immediately made him the face of the franchise. Similarly, when Clark was drafted by the Fever, she became the cornerstone of the team, and WNBA viewership surged.
Despite Indiana’s tough 1-8 start, which led to doubts about Clark’s readiness, she proved herself, finishing the season as the unanimous Rookie of the Year.
