“” ABSOLUTE FRAUD!” — CELTIC FANS ERUPT AS SKY SPORTS PUNDIT FACES FIERCE BACKLASH OVER CONTROVERSIAL CLAIMS

Kris Boyd has hit out at the Celtic supporters who targeted Dermot Desmond at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, branding the protest “embarrassing” for the club.

The former Rangers striker believes those involved crossed a line by taking their anger towards Celtic’s principal shareholder away from Parkhead and directly to the golf course at St Andrews.

Desmond was targeted by protesters during the tournament, with tennis balls thrown in his direction as tensions between sections of the Celtic support and the club hierarchy continue to escalate.

Celtic subsequently released a strongly-worded statement condemning those involved, and Boyd believes the speed and strength of the response showed just how badly the club viewed the incident.

Speaking on Go Ballistic, Boyd said: “I think you only need to read the Celtic statement, and how quickly it came out as well, to see that the football club feels let down and embarrassed by the total lack of respect for the club as a whole.

“Some of the Celtic fans think they’re bigger than the football club and it’s never going to be the case.

“To turn up to an event like the Alfred Dunhill and protest the way they did. It’s a worldwide event, it’s embarrassing for Celtic Football Club and I think the statement underlined how embarrassed they felt with the protest.

“It’s a step too far for me and Dermot Desmond, for me, will just go and knuckle down now.”
