“AN ABSOLUTE FRAUD!” — NEWCASTLE UNITED FANS ERUPT AS SKY SPORTS PUNDIT FACES FIERCE BACKLASH OVER CONTROVERSIAL CLAIMS

Jamie Carragher raised concerns over Newcastle United’s lack of physicality following their 4-1 defeat to Coventry City.

Coventry moved out of the Premier League relegation zone while the Magpies missed the opportunity to climb into the top four on matchday six.

Jack Rudoni put the Sky Blues in front from the penalty spot just six minutes in before Sidiki Cherif doubled their lead early in the second half. Sven Botman pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining, but United succumbed to late goals from Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni.

It was the second successive away match in which Matthias Jaissle’s side have lost 4-1. It is also the first time Newcastle have conceded four or more goals in back-to-back Premier League away games since December 2012.

Jamie Carragher: Newcastle United were ‘beaten up’ by Coventry City

And Carragher has called for the Magpies to change “very quickly” after accusing them of being “beaten up” against Leeds and Coventry.

“We’ve consistently said this season they’ve had a good start results-wise, but the underlying numbers haven’t been great,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “How many shots they concede, their xG. You look at two away games now where they’ve lost 8-2.

“He’s going with two strikers up there; I know (Yoane) Wissa drops a little bit deeper, but when Eddie Howe was there it was more of a 4-3-3.

“Every manager has their own way, but when you think of the lack of physicality in that team, it might be a case where you leave one of the strikers out and go with an extra body in midfield.

“It’s a young team, and it isn’t as physically powerful as a lot of the teams in the Premier League. And in their last two away games, they’ve been beaten up twice – and that’s got to stop very quickly.”

On the successive 4-1 away losses, Jaissle added: “There’s something we need to look at for sure. We need to win these games in the boxes. Defensively we need to improve. On the offens

ive we need to be more sharp.”
