Despite being a Ballon d’Or hopeful, Vinicius has already accumulated three yellow cards in just seven La Liga games this season, mainly for dissent and protests to referees.
This attitude seems to be spreading among the squad, as even captain Luka Modric received a rare warning in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Alaves. The team has collectively picked up nine yellow cards for similar behavior this season. Vinicius, who was cautioned in the 29th minute for protesting, narrowly avoided a second yellow before being substituted in the 90th minute. His frustration continued on the sidelines, as he was seen arguing with officials when six minutes of stoppage time were announced.

Despite Real Madrid’s 3-0 lead, Alaves mounted a late comeback, scoring twice in the closing minutes, and came close to snatching a point from the match.

Ancelotti, who has previously taken a protective, almost paternal role with the young winger, has personally spoken to Vinicius about his conduct on the field, particularly his repeated protests. Despite these efforts, it seems that Vinicius has not heeded the advice of his coach or teammates, continuing to engage in behavior that puts his presence in matches at risk, as seen in the tense game against Alaves.
The situation is reportedly creating tension within the squad, as his teammates grow tired of mediating both on and off the pitch. While Real Madrid is keen on renewing Vinicius’ contract, speculation has emerged that the club might eventually entertain a record-breaking transfer bid from Saudi Arabia, potentially exceeding the $247 million (€222 million) paid for Neymar in 2017.
