Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been left out of Aston Villa’s Champions League squad for the league phase of the competition.
Villa signed the 24-year-old defender from Southampton for around £30m this summer but the centre-back will be restricted to domestic football at least until the knockout phase of the competition after being omitted from Villa’s 23-man Champions League squad.
Unai Emery has instead selected Pau Torres, Victor Lindelof and Tyrone Mings as his central defensive options for the competition.
Young striker Brian Madjo, who scored against Paris Saint-Germain in Villa’s European Super Cup final defeat last month, has also been left out, as has Modou Keba Cisse.
Villa begin their Champions League campaign away to Club Brugge on Tuesday before facing Fenerbahce, Viking, Barcelona, Galatasaray, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague.
