Everton are among the clubs showing an interest in PSV Eindhoven forward Ricardo Pepe in January after Fulham had a bid rejected, according to
The Toffees have had a good season under David Moyes in their first campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and currently sit eighth in the Premier League table at the halfway point with 28 points from their 19 games so far.
But goals have been a major issue for the Blues, having scored just 20 goals so far, and now the Friedkin Group are prepared to sanction some transfer business during the winter transfer window to bolster the squad for the second half of the season.
Everton Eyeing Ricard Pepi Transfer
Pepi, who has been described as ‘incredibly prolific’ for his goalscoring record throughout his career, has notched ten times for Eredivisie giants PSV so far this season in the league and Champions League.
That form has seen him attract the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Fulham, who have already had a formal £26.2m bid rejected by the Dutch side for his services. It’s understood that Pepi would be open to moving to the Premier League if a fee could be agreed with his current club.
But Everton are keeping a close eye on the situation and are still keen on the 22-year-old goalscorer as they look to bolster their own squad. Summer signing Thierno Barry has managed just two goals all season since his big-money move from Villarreal, while Portuguese forward Beto has been demoted to second choice this season and managed just one goal in the Premier League.
A new talisman could help take Moyes’ side to the next level and push them further up the table, but it now seems as though a deal is likely to be an expensive one after Fulham’s opening bid was turned down.
Pepi Would Be Major Beto and Barry Upgrade
Despite being just 22, Pepi’s goalscoring record speaks for itself. While playing in his homeland he netted 27 goals in 71 games after making his league debut as a 15-year-old. A poor spell in Germany followed at Augsburg, but he has since bounced back with 13 goals in 31 games for Groningen, and now has 36 goals in 89 appearances for PSV.
His ability in front of goal would immediately be a huge upgrade on Barry and Beto, who have never been prolific, but his style of play would suit the likes of Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye too, who like to link with the front man and run beyond.
If a deal can be struck for the right price, Pepi would be a terrific signing for Everton and it could become a game-changing signing in the January window for Everton and Moyes.
