Nottingham Forest transfer negotiations with Sporting Lisbon for Ivory Coast international defender Ousmane Diomande are said to have collapsed.
Reports in Portugal claim talks between the two clubs “have fallen through”, with Maisfutebol citing “a major disagreement” for a failure to agree a deal.
Midfielder Xaver Schlager is the Reds’ only new arrival so far this summer.
The Austrian arrived as a free agent after leaving RB Leipzig and is reunited with new Forest boss Oliver Glasner after the pair worked together at Wolfsburg.
Forest want a further four signings to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. Another midfielder, a centre-back, a right-back and a striker are on their shopping list.
Speaking last week, Glasner insisted he was “not anxious” to get new players through the door ahead of the new Premier League season.
“We are preparing (for) some new signings. It’s like always, you need four parties to agree; both clubs have to find the solution, the player and the agent as well,” he said.
“That’s what we are trying (to do), besides preparing for the season. I’m really looking forward and I’m very confident in the board that we will get the right players.
“We have already defined the profiles we are looking for and what we want to add – what we don’t have probably in our squad yet. We identified our targets but there is some work to do to get the deals over the line.”
