The transfer window may have closed but the deals are still coming, with reports from Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Aberdeen.

The winter transfer window may have closed on Monday night, but the reports, rumours and deals are still swirling with clubs still looking at free agents, loan deals and more.

In your Wednesday morning transfer bulletin, we’ve got the latest reports from Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, and beyond:

Ross County release duo

Ross County have confirmed that Gary Mackay-Steven and Nicky Clark have been allowed to leave the club. The experienced pair signed for the club in the summer, from Kilmarnock and St Johnstone respectively, following the Staggies relegation to the Scottish Championship.

However, with the club having been through a season of turmoil that has resulted in them having three different managers in the first five months of the campaign, they have been allowed to leave in order to refresh a squad that is currently second bottom of the table, and in danger of suffering a second successive relegation.

A short statement on the club’s official social media channel said: “We would like to thank both players for their efforts during their time with the club. We wish both players all the very best going forward.”

Aberdeen clear out continues

Aberdeen have allowed fringe forward Peter Ambrose to join Diosgyori VTK on loan until the end of the season as the Pittodrie clear-out continues. The Dons have seen a total of six players exit the club during the winter transfer window, with the 23-year-old joining Ester Sokler, Adil Aouchiche, Jesper Karlsson, Alfie Dorrington, Vicente Besuijen, and Kusini Yengi in leaving for pastures new.

The Nigerian was snapped from Hungarian side Ujpest last summer, but has found the net just twice at Pittodrie, and has now been allowed to return to the Hungarian top flight, though there is no option to make the deal permanent mentioned from either club.

Rangers confirm double exit

Rangers have confirmed that striker Danilo has joined NEC Nijmegen on loan until the end of the campaign. The 26-year-old moved to Ibrox two-and-a-half seasons ago from Feyenoord in a deal reported to be worth around £6million, but has struggled with injury throughout his time at Ibrox, and has been allowed to move to the Goffertstadion on a temporary deal that includes an option to make it permanent in the summer.

Under contract until 2028, Champions League outfit Pafos made an offer for the Brazilian last week on a permanent deal, but he opted to return to the Eredivisie, where he has spent his entire career prior to his transfer to Rangers. Beginning his career at Ajax, he also spent time on loan to FC Twente before moving to the De Kuip Stadium.

With the Dutch transfer window still open on Tuesday, the Gers have now sanctioned a deal, with the club issuing a short statement on their website which read: “The Brazilian has made 28 appearances for the Gers this season, scoring four times. Everyone at the club wishes Danilo well for his loan spell.”

Rangers also announced the permanent departure of academy forward Chris Eadie. The 18-year-old was recalled from his co-operation loan at Stirling Albion, where he made 11 appearances, and has now joined EFL Championship side Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.

Celtic sanction deal

Celtic have confirmed that Stephen Welsh has been allowed to return to Motherwell on a loan deal until the end of the campaign. The Scottish centre-back was a regular in Jens Berthel Askou’s starting XI in the first half of the season, but was recalled by Hoops boss Martin O’Neill amid a defensive injury crisis.

Following the 2-0 win over Falkirk on Sunday, the 73-year-old said: “Welshy has done very, very well at Motherwell, and in an ideal world, he would probably want to go back, and I don’t really want to stop him when he’s on a really good run there at this minute.

“We only have the three centre-backs at this minute, and Welshy, you know, he wants to play. Obviously, he’d like to play at Celtic. If I can’t guarantee that for him, then obviously he wants to play with Motherwell, where he has done exceptionally well.”

Following the loan capture of Brentford defender Benjamin Arthur, the Scottish champions confirmed that the 26-year-old has been allowed to return to Fir Park. “We welcome back Stephen with open arms, knowing that he has unfinished business to attend to here with us,” Motherwell boss Berthel Askou said.

“The dialogue with Celtic has been good and transparent all the way through, and we are absolutely delighted that we found a solution that sends him back to Fir Park to continue his development with us.”
