Rangers FC immediately ‘reach agreement’ on a new striker just hours after their draw against Hibernian

Rangers FC have wasted no time in responding to their frustrating goalless draw against Hibernian, immediately reaching an agreement for a new striker to bolster their attacking options.

The Light Blues were held to a 0-0 stalemate at Easter Road on February 1, 2026, in a Scottish Premiership encounter that exposed ongoing concerns over their lack of cutting edge in the final third. Despite dominating possession at times, Rangers failed to convert chances, leaving manager Danny Rohl eager to add firepower before the transfer window’s closure.

Just hours after the full-time whistle, reports emerged that the Ibrox club had reached an agreement with Southampton for the loan signing of 24-year-old forward Cameron Archer. The England youth international, who joined the Saints from Aston Villa in a £15 million deal in 2024, has struggled for regular starts in the Championship this season but is regarded as a clinical finisher with proven pedigree.

Archer’s absence from Southampton’s squad for their recent victory over Stoke City had already fueled speculation, with boss Tonda Eckert confirming transfer discussions were underway and hinting at imminent news. Rangers, under Rohl’s guidance, moved swiftly to secure the deal, viewing the versatile attacker as an ideal addition to compete with Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti.

The rapid agreement underscores Rangers’ determination to address their striking deficiencies following the Hibernian stalemate, which left them six points adrift of leaders Hearts. Archer, known for his pace, movement, and goal-scoring instincts, could provide the spark needed in the title race and upcoming fixtures.

While medicals and final paperwork remain, the move signals an aggressive end to the January window for the Gers. Supporters will hope Archer’s arrival transforms their attack and helps turn draws into vital wins in the crucial months ahead.
