The Newcastle skipper is loving life on Tyneside but has attracted fresh interest from Man City

Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes is firmly committed to the Magpies ahead of the January transfer window.

That is the word coming from the Brazil star’s camp after several links with Manchester City in the build-up to the winter trading period and suggestions that the midfielder has a Premier League rival interested in activating a £100m release clause. Reports in the North-West earlier this month also indicated that City would be prepared to offer goalkeeper James Trafford as bait in a player plus cash deal.

However, while Bruno is as concerned as anybody about Newcastle’s ailing top-flight form he is believed to be “100% focused on Newcastle”. Not only is Bruno eager to turn things around in the Premier League, but he is also desperate to lift another Carabao Cup with United this term after making history earlier this year.

With the World Cup also on the horizon he wants to to ensure he is in the right place mentally and physically to shine for Brazil in the United States next summer, something he feels playing week-in, week-out at Newcastle will give him.

Bruno goes into 2026 with two years left on his current deal, and United sources have dismissed the talk linking him with City as speculation.

We also understand no moves or discussions have taken place from Bruno’s side and Newcastle are delighted with the job he’s done as captain since taking over at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.

Bruno also has no issues with head coach Eddie Howe after a slight disagreement in “messaging” was revelaed by the Toon boss.

Howe had said last week: “We were very well organised. We just didn’t deliver the performance that we wanted to.

“I think Bruno’s very emotional and that’s part of his success. I think Bruno’s comments, he was 90 per cent right initially.

“I don’t think we were a mess. I don’t think the other parts of his original comments were wrong. But we weren’t a mess.”

Bruno had said: “It’s so frustrating for me to come here today, but the fans are right to be annoyed because it’s a tough one to accept.

“Everyone came here and knew exactly what it meant for the fans. The whole messaging in the changing room was ‘give it to the fans,’ and we didn’t. It’s so embarrassing.

“I’m very angry for the performance. We missed the consistency, which is not there, the mentality’s not there.”
