When shown on the jumbotron, she received a standing ovation from the Liberty crowd. Reese reacted to a video of the moment on social media, posting only a teary-eyed emoji and a heart emoji, expressing her emotions at seeing her former coach honored.
Before the Olympic break, first-year coach Teresa Weatherspoon had the Chicago Sky in a solid position to make the postseason with a 10-14 record. However, after the league resumed, Chicago struggled, losing 13 of their last 16 games and finishing the season at 13-27.
Weatherspoon’s legacy as a player remains strong during her seven seasons with the New York Liberty from 1997 to 2003, she was a five-time All-Star, a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and the WNBA assists leader in her rookie season, much like Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.
