Newcastle United transfer news LIVE: Exit close, Real Madrid star link
Newcastle United have just two days to add to their squad before the January transfer window closes, with time running out for Eddie Howe and Co. The Magpies have yet to make any moves in the winter trading period, with hopes of a boost to the group now fading.
United have been linked with several defensive options over the course of January, but with the clock now ticking on Monday night’s deadline, the chances of a late surprise move appear slim. However, nothing has been ruled out at this stage, with the potential that Newcastle could accelerate summer plans if the opportunity arose.
There could be some movement on the exit front, with several players linked with a move away, although it is unlikely anything that will weaken the squad will be sanctioned.
We’ll have all the latest transfer news and rumours from St James’ Park and across the Premier League right here.
Howe’s transfer response
Eddie Howe knows time is running out for Untied to strengthen the squad before the window closes, and offered an honest verdict after the defeat to Liverpool last night.
“Not as far as I know at this moment in time. I know there are talks going on behind the scenes in terms of potential signings, maybe more for the future, but I don’t think so.”
Potential ‘exit’
Sevilla are said to be keen to agree a permanent move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. The Greek international has been in excellent form for the La Liga side since he moved on loan from Tyneside last summer.
While he doesn’t appear to have any future on Tyneside, reports in Spain suggest his form could mean several other sides making a move for the keeper, with United obviously happy to allow a bidding war to increase the price.

Brahim Diaz link
Newcastle have been credited with interest in Real Madrid attacking playmaker Brahim Diaz. The Moroccan, now famous for that failed Panenka penalty in the AFCON final last month, is said to be looking for more gametime.
Spurs and Aston Villa are said to be keen on offering him a Premier League lifeline, and now Caught Offside say Newcastle have been alerted to his availability.
The 26-year-old is said to be valued at around €60m, which could rule United out in this window.
