Celtic and Danny Röhl’s Rangers are both expected to reshape parts of their midfields this summer, especially with European football again increasing the physical demands on their squads.

Recruitment from Scandinavia has also become a familiar route for Celtic and Rangers in recent years. That helps explain why Silas Andersen is now firmly on their radar.

The 21-year-old BK Häcken midfielder has quietly become one of the most reliable performers in the Danish league since last season. His combination of defensive intensity, ball-carrying and composure in possession is now attracting interest from multiple countries.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Celtic and Rangers are both monitoring Andersen closely as Sporting push ahead with attempts to sign the midfielder.

The Portuguese newspaper explains Sporting have already made initial contact with Häcken regarding a potential transfer. Hamburg and FC Köln are also interested, with Köln already seeing a €4m (£3.4m) bid rejected.

Häcken are reportedly aiming for around €7m (£5.9m) plus bonuses.

Why Andersen is attracting Celtic and Rangers

Silas Andersen is one of the most consistent midfielders in the Danish league since last season. While his physical profile immediately stands out at 1.90m, he is far more technical than many expect.

The Denmark U21 international is comfortable carrying the ball through midfield and regularly beats opponents off the dribble. His control in tight spaces is another strong point, especially for a player with his frame.

Still, it is defensively where Andersen makes the biggest impact. FootyStats data shows he averages around nine duel wins per game and completes roughly 2.4 tackles per match.

There is also attacking contribution in his game. Andersen chips in with goals and assists, and Häcken believe there is still significant room for development.

Record state Sporting view him as more of a medium-term project rather than the direct replacement for Morten Hjulmand.

That may also suit Celtic and Rangers, who have both shown willingness in recent years to recruit younger Scandinavian talent with resale potential.

Silas Andersen’s situation now looks likely to develop quickly. Häcken are aware several clubs are circling, and the rejected Köln offer has already helped establish a rough asking price.

For Celtic and Rangers, the attraction is obvious. Andersen combines physicality, defensive reliability and technical quality, while still being young enough to develop further.

A fee around €7m (£5.9m) would still represent a sizeable investment in Scottish football terms. However, the growing Bundesliga and Portuguese interest could push both Glasgow clubs to make decisions sooner rather than later.
