Shaquille O’Neal won a $100,000 free throw bet against Angel Reese.
It looks like Chicago Sky star Angel Reese will need to secure some extra endorsements after losing a $100,000 bet to four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal. On Wednesday, Reese, a recent LSU graduate, shared a video on her Instagram stories from inside a gym with Shaq, who is famously known for his struggles at the free-throw line during his career.
In the video, Reese challenges O’Neal, saying, “One hundred thousand dollars if you make this shot,” as she filmed. To her surprise, Shaq made the shot, prompting Reese to laugh and scream. “I guess I owe him $100k,” she captioned the video, adding a crying face emoji.

Reese didn’t mention the exact location of the video, but banners displaying “Mount Carmel Volleyball” were visible in the background, suggesting the gym might have been at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in her hometown of Baltimore, MD. Although Reese attended Baltimore’s
St. Frances Academy, where she was a standout as a four-year varsity basketball player, she posted another story on Wednesday captioned, “Look who’s back home.” Reese and O’Neal, both former LSU Tigers, became close during her time with the Lady Tigers under Coach Kim Mulkey.
Reese, one of the top-earning college athletes through name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals, was signed as Reebok’s first NIL athlete after Shaq became the brand’s President of Basketball in October 2023. Unfortunately, her rookie WNBA season with the Chicago Sky was cut short after suffering a fractured wrist in a game against the Los Angeles Sparks last month, leading to surgery.
