Rangers Fans Demand Action as Nicolas Raskin Faces Heavy Criticism After Porto Defeat

Rangers’ Europa League clash against FC Porto ended in frustration, and while the result itself disappointed supporters, it was the performance of certain players that truly ignited anger among the fanbase. In the aftermath of the 3–1 defeat, large sections of Rangers fans have directed fierce criticism at two individuals, with Nicolas Raskin emerging as the central figure in the backlash.

The Belgian midfielder started the match in Rangers’ 3-4-2-1 system, partnering Mohammed Diomande in the heart of midfield. However, what was expected to be a disciplined and energetic display quickly turned into a night to forget. Against Porto’s technically sharp midfield, Rangers struggled to gain control, and fans believe Raskin’s performance fell well below the standards required at this level.

Supporters took to social media shortly after the final whistle, describing Raskin’s display as “inexcusable” and “costly.” Many felt he failed to protect the back line, lost key duels, and allowed Porto’s midfield to dictate the tempo of the game. As Porto grew in confidence, Rangers were repeatedly stretched through the middle, an area fans believe should have been better managed.

What has further intensified the reaction is the belief among supporters that this was not simply a poor team performance, but a lack of accountability from certain players. Alongside another unnamed teammate who has also come under fire, Raskin has been singled out as someone who should be made an example of moving forward.

Calls are now growing for Danny Rohl to take decisive action. Fans want the Rangers boss to send a clear message that sub-standard performances will not be tolerated, regardless of reputation or previous contributions. For many, dropping Raskin from the starting lineup or making an early substitution in future matches would represent a strong statement of intent.

The Porto match was seen as a major test for Rangers in Europe, and supporters expected intensity, discipline, and leadership. Instead, they witnessed a midfield that struggled to cope under pressure, allowing Porto to seize control after Rangers’ early goal. As the Portuguese side turned the game around before half-time, frustration inside the Rangers fanbase continued to grow.

While criticism has been harsh, it also reflects the high expectations surrounding the club. Rangers supporters demand commitment and consistency, particularly on the European stage. For Nicolas Raskin, the coming weeks could prove crucial as he looks to respond to the criticism and reclaim the trust of the fans.

Ultimately, all eyes are now on Danny Rohl. How he responds to the fallout from Porto may define not only team selection going forward, but also the standards he sets within the squad. One thing is clear: patience among the Rangers faithful is wearing thin, and decisive leadership is being demanded.
