Exclusive: Rangers eye deadline-busting transfer after ‘perfect’ agreement reached

Rangers are still pushing to add another striker to their squad before the upcoming 2 February transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gers remain in the market for a new frontman to strengthen their hand for the Premiership title race, but there is also an acceptance that it may not be easy for them to get a deal over the line, given that several clubs are also targeting attacking additions.

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Andreas Skov Olsen is a “perfect” fit for Scottish football after Rangers agreed to sign him on a season-long loan last week.

The Danish winger became the third new addition of the month for Danny Rohl’s side, but they still plan to bring a striker through the door before the end of the window.

Aside from that particular pursuit, the remainder of the window for the Govan outfit is likely to be more about securing outgoings than it is potential incomings.

Rangers want support for Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski

Football Insider revealed at the start of January that Youssef Chermiti is set to stay at Rangers in the hope that he can continue to improve, despite suggestions that he could be shown the door in January.

The Portuguese doubled his goal tally for the season with his all-important brace in the recent victory over Celtic in the Old Firm Derby, and there has been increasing hope that he has begun to turn a corner in recent weeks.

Bojan Miovski is also in form again, having hit a hat-trick as part of a 5-0 demolition of Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

However, Rohl is aware that he needs to find further support for that duo if his team are to mount a serious push for the league title, as Danilo remains firmly down the pecking order.

The Brazilian hasn’t started in the league since 3 December, and has recently been limited to just a handful of minutes when called upon from the bench.

Rohl’s lack of faith in the ex-Feyenoord man has prompted Rangers to explore the possibility of adding another new face to their attack, as they will not want to be found wanting in that area in the second half of the season.

Rangers fighting losing battle for Kieron Bowie

Wyness also told Football Insider on Wednesday that Kieron Bowie is more likely to join Celtic than Rangers, amid interest from both sides of the Old Firm.

The Hibernian star is a wanted man after eight goals and three assists from 21 Premiership games so far this season, but a deal now appears to be out of reach for the Gers in the winter window.

Wyness revealed that his sources in Scotland have indicated that a move to Celtic Park is the more likely result for the 23-year-old this month, although Hibs are extremely reluctant to lose him.

Bowie would have represented a very significant outlay for Rangers in the middle of a season, and they are now likely to be forced to turn their attention elsewhere to find the new striker that they are craving.
