LeBron James could make history this season if he and his son, Bronny, become the first father-son duo to not only play in the NBA at the same time but also be teammates. Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss, who worked alongside her father, Dr. Jerry Buss, for decades before taking charge of the franchise, shared her thoughts on this unique parent-child dynamic in an interview with Chuck Schilken of the LA Times.
“I never had that conversation with LeBron or Bronny, but in business situations, I always addressed my father as Dr. Buss. I wanted to keep that boundary clear because it helped us we weren’t bringing work home to the dinner table,” Buss explained. “So, I think LeBron and Bronny are very prepared for this. And I’m excited for them to have this opportunity.”
The James father-son storyline has been one of the most talked-about topics of the NBA offseason. Bronny, drafted 55th overall, joins the Lakers as a long-term project, with the team focused on his development.

While Bronny’s success would be a bonus for the Lakers, his failure wouldn’t have much impact on their overall competitive standing. Coming into the league after averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists at USC, his numbers haven’t exactly inspired confidence among fans.
Meanwhile, LeBron continues to prove he’s capable of leading a competitive team. His performance at the 2024 Olympics showed the Lakers faithful that, despite his age, he can still be the centerpiece of a contending unit. Last season, he averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists.
However, without enough support around him and Anthony Davis, the Lakers risk a repeat of last season—strong individual performances but falling short of a deep playoff run like in 2023.
