The Scottish Premiership transfer window has seen significant movement in it’s opening fortnight, with Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen all adding strength to their squads.

Hearts starlet to depart

Hearts are set to lose Scotland Under-19 centre-back Alfie Osbourne after the teenager agreed a long-term contract with English Premier League outfit Chelsea. The 17-year-old captained the Jambos to the Scottish Youth Cup last season, but had been expected to depart Tynecastle this summer, with interest from several European clubs emerging.

Manchester City were heavily linked to the defender in recent months, alongside Arsenal and Newcastle United, but it is the Blues that have won the race for his signature. Reports claim he has already completed his medical at Stamford Bridge, with the move expected to be announced officially in the coming days.

It is understood that Hearts will receive a six-figure training fee as compensation for the deal. His contract at Tynecastle was due to expire this summer, meaning Chelsea will acquire him via FIFA’s training compensation regulations.

Kilmarnock add 24 y/o

Kilmarnock have completed their sixth signing of the summer after announcing the arrival of Lincoln City winger Erik Ring on a two year contract. Head coach Neil McCann has had a busy summer so far, adding several new faces to his squad as he looks to embark on his first full season in charge at Rugby Park.

A Sweden Under-21 international, the 24-year-old began his career in his homeland with AIK Stockholm, where he played over 50 times, while he also spent time on loan at Allsvenskan rivals Helsingborg, before moving to the English third tier with Lincoln in the summer of 2024. Winning promotion to the EFL Championship with the Imps last season, Ring contributed four goals in 19 appearances as Michael Skubala’s side lifted the EFL League One title.

A statement via the club website labelled him as a “technically gifted winger, who is versatile enough to play off either flank or through central positions, is a product of the famous AIK academy in his homeland.”

Hibs confirm signing

Hibs have confirmed their third signing of the season with the arrival of midfielder Azeem Abdulai from Leyton Orient. The Scotland Under-21 international was a product of the Celtic and Leicester City youth systems before embarking on his professional career with Swansea City, where he made over 30 appearances for the club in the EFL Championship.

Moving to the BetWright Stadium in the summer of 2024, Abdulai has made 65 appearances in the English third tier for the O’s, but has decided to return to Scotland by signing a three-year contract at Easter Road.

“Azeem is exactly the profile we wanted,” said head coach David Gray. “He’s athletic, aggressive, technically secure on the ball and will play box-to-box. We are delighted that he has been able to join the group here in Ireland at the end of the week so he can settle in with the squad and get up to speed as quickly as possible.”

Rangers target close to move

Rangers have been beaten to the signing of talented young Zalaegerszeg defender Akpe Victory by Swiss Pro League giants FC Basel, according to reports. The 19-year-old centre-back is said to have attracted ‘significant attention’ from several sides across Europe, with Derek McInnes’ side named as one of the interested parties, alongside Strasbourg and Benfica.

The 6ft 5in Nigerian first rose to prominence with Lithuanian outfit Banga, before he was snapped up by Hungarian side Zalaegerszeg at the turn of the year, who reported slapped a €5million price tag on him ahead of expected summer interest. Described as a player with a commanding physical presence and ability to play out from the back comfortably, it is claimed that Basel have beaten off competition to sign the player this summer, with a report from Rudy Galetti saying they are closing in on the deal after “weeks of negotiations.”

Celtic agree deal

Celtic have agreed a contract extension with England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to extend his stay at the club. The 32-year-old joined as a free agent in February, signing a short-term contract, and went on to play nine times for the club, scoring twice as Martin O’Neill’s men battled to win a fifth successive Scottish Premiership title with a 3-1 win over Hearts on the final day.

In recent days, there have been reports that the ex-Arsenal midfielder has been spotted training alone, raising suspicions that his time at the club could be coming to an early end. However, the club have agreed a one-year extension with Oxlade-Chamberlain to take his time with Celtic into a second season. According to a report from Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been weighing up several options across Europe, but had been convinced to remain in the east end of Glasgow after talks with manager Martin O’Neill.

“I’m delighted to be staying at Celtic for another year,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain. “It was an incredible time last season and to be part of that success in winning the league and Scottish Cup was so special.

“I’m really excited to be back and I’m looking forward to meeting up with the boys and getting to work ahead of what will hopefully be another successful season.”
