Newcastle in Contact to Sign England Star Angel Gomes Before Deadline

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes ahead of the transfer deadline, according to reports.
The St James’ Park side have been approached regarding the England international’s availability by intermediaries, as Marseille are open to offloading him in the final days of the January transfer window.
Several Premier League clubs have been made aware of Gomes’ situation this month, with Wolverhampton Wanderers already making progress in talks.
Gomes only joined Marseille on a free transfer before the season from fellow Ligue 1 side Lille, where he spent five years after leaving Manchester United in 2020.
Newcastle Offered Angel Gomes
According to TEAMtalk, Gomes would be open to a return to England this month as he aims to regain his form and force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
While talks with Wolves are progressing, several Premier League clubs could still join the race, with Newcastle, Everton, Brighton, Fulham and Sunderland all aware of his availability.
Gomes has struggled for regular minutes at Marseille in recent weeks, playing just eight minutes across the last five league games under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
The ‘phenomenal’ 25-year-old was not in the squad for Marseille’s 3-1 win over Lens last weekend and was left on the bench for their 3-0 loss to Club Brugge on Wednesday, which saw his club crash out of the Champions League.
Gomes emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout midfielders during his time at Lille, which saw him awarded his maiden England call-up in September 2024.
The midfielder has made four appearances for the Three Lions since, but has yet to feature under Tuchel.
Newcastle Reject Kurt Zouma Move
Yet to make any new signings in January, Newcastle have been offered the opportunity to land former Chelsea and West Ham defender Kurt Zouma on a free transfer.
According to reports, the Magpies have passed on the chance to sign the 31-year-old, who is available after leaving Romanian side CFR Cluj earlier this month.
Newcastle have been hit by several defensive injuries recently, with Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth all sidelined.
However, Dan Burn’s return from injury has eased concerns, with Newcastle unlikely to make any additions before Monday’s transfer deadline.
