Pressley and Röhl Heaps Praise on James Tavernier After Rangers’ 3–0 Masterclass Over Dundee

Despite suffering a heavy 3–0 defeat to Rangers, Dundee head coach Steven Pressley displayed admirable sportsmanship by openly praising Rangers captain James Tavernier for an extraordinary, match-defining performance. Pressley was joined in his admiration by Danny Röhl, with both coaches united in acknowledging a masterclass from the Rangers star whose “out of the world” display proved decisive at Ibrox.

From the opening exchanges, Tavernier stamped his authority on the contest, producing a performance that epitomised leadership, quality, and elite-level consistency. As Rangers cruised to a convincing 3–0 victory, their captain was at the heart of everything positive, driving his team forward and setting the tempo with relentless energy and composure.

Speaking after the match, Pressley admitted that Dundee were undone by individual brilliance as much as tactical execution. While disappointed by the scoreline, the Dundee boss reserved special praise for Tavernier, describing him as a player who changes games through sheer presence and intelligence. Pressley highlighted the defender’s influence across the pitch, noting how his movement, delivery, and decision-making repeatedly exposed Dundee’s defensive structure.

Danny Röhl echoed those sentiments, calling Tavernier a “complete footballer” whose performance reflected the very highest standards. Röhl pointed to the Rangers skipper’s ability to dominate both offensively and defensively, stressing that his leadership ensured Rangers never lost control of the match. According to Röhl, Tavernier’s display was the kind that young players should study closely.

Throughout the encounter, Tavernier’s impact was impossible to ignore. He combined defensive solidity with relentless attacking intent, constantly overlapping, delivering dangerous balls into the box, and maintaining positional discipline. His work rate never dipped, even as Rangers tightened their grip on the game and added to their goal tally.

The 3–0 scoreline reflected Rangers’ dominance, but it was Tavernier’s influence that truly separated the two sides. Whether rallying teammates, dictating play from wide areas, or calmly managing key moments, the captain led by example from start to finish.

For Rangers, this performance further underlined Tavernier’s status as one of the most influential figures in Scottish football. For Dundee, the defeat was painful, but Pressley’s willingness to acknowledge excellence spoke volumes about the respect commanded by the Rangers star.

When opposition managers set aside disappointment to praise a rival player, it is the highest form of recognition. On this occasion, despite Dundee’s loss, both Pressley and Röhl were in full agreement — James Tavernier delivered a masterclass, and Rangers’ emphatic 3–0 victory was built on the brilliance of their captain.
