Dwyane Wade Shares Her Real Thoughts on the Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese Feud
NBA legend Dwyane Wade recently appeared on the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, where he spoke with WNBA star Angel Reese following her rookie season with the Chicago Sky. During their conversation, Wade and Reese discussed some of the top rookies in the WNBA.
With Reese and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark making a significant impact in the 2024 season, many fans have drawn comparisons between them and NBA legends Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Wade acknowledged these comparisons, noting that much of the discussion among fans and analysts is influenced by race.
He explained that, similar to how Bird and Johnson brought attention to the NBA in the 1970s, the WNBA is thriving thanks to standout players of different races, like Reese and Clark. Wade referenced the dynamic between Bird and Johnson, saying, “People often say Magic and Larry saved the NBA.

You had this incredible Black player with charisma and skill, and this tough, talented white player.” He believes the rivalry was an ideal marketing tool for growing the NBA’s audience, and sees a similar opportunity in the WNBA.
“It was perfect timing for the league,” Wade said. “They were both winners and champions. People tend to focus on the black and white dynamic… It’s the same kind of rivalry boosting the game today. Some of it’s true, and some of it is smart marketing.”
