Alan Shearer nationally humiliates Anthony Gordon to vent Newcastle United frustration
Alan Shearer and Anthony Gordon have endured a public war of words at Newcastle United in recent months.
Alan Shearer has told the world that Anthony Gordon would not get a game for Bayern Munich.
Working as a commentator last night as the Bundesliga giants faced Paris Saint-Germain, the Newcastle United legend could not resist a cheeky swipe at Gordon. The Toon winger is the subject of intense speculation regarding his St James’ Park future.
Bayern are understood to be one of several clubs monitoring Gordon’s situation. Newcastle fans have become fed up – with the wideman’s current hip setback fuelling conspiracy theories.

With millions watching on Amazon Prime, Shearer fired the latest jibe in a bitter back-and-forth battle between the pair. Commentator Jon Champion told viewers: “If we’re to believe the reports, they’re not content with the front four they’ve got, they want Anthony Gordon.”
Looking for a nibble off Shearer, he did not take the bait, instead firing a bold remark towards the Newcastle man. He responded: “He wouldn’t get in this team.”

Tensions rose when Shearer questioned Gordon’s illness following the 1-1 draw with Barcelona. Eddie Howe later clarified that he made the decision not to start the 25-year-old for the Champions League clash.
Just three days later, Gordon had his chance to respond after scoring the winner against Chelsea. Firing back at the critics, he said: “Usually I don’t like to clear stuff up because I don’t care too much. But this one does need clearing up because it was just nonsense. Saying I didn’t want to play in the biggest game of my career is absolute nonsense.”
This provoked Gary Lineker to tease Shearer on The Rest Is Football podcast. Acknowledging Gordon’s retaliation, Newcastle’s all-time leading goalscorer doubled down on his illness claims.
“Good, I love it!” Shearer said. “That’s fine. You always get the chance, the right to reply as a player. I wouldn’t change anything I said the other night against Barcelona. Illness wouldn’t have kept me out for a game. I know he said it was the manager’s (decision).”

Further nit-picks include Gordon snubbing Shearer for Bukayo Saka when discussing England’s greatest players. Some question whether the Toon icon has crossed the line in recent weeks.
Shearer doubted Gordon’s injury while speaking to a US network and also quizzed whether he is committed at Newcastle. Clearly angry, United’s all-time leading goalscorer went as far to suggest he would happily sell the Three Lions international this summer.
“I don’t know what Anthony Gordon’s feelings are but I always say, if someone doesn’t want to be here, then you have to get them out,” Shearer said. “I don’t know whether he wants that or not. I honestly don’t know. Only he can answer that.
“I said it with the Isak situation. If someone doesn’t want to be there, you’re better off getting someone out, and getting someone in who wants to be there and is 100 per cent committed. I’m not saying Gordon isn’t, I’m just saying only he can answer that. If he doesn’t, then he has to be sold.”
