It is no secret that the New England Patriots have a lot of roster needs to address this offseason and have plenty of money to accomplish their goals.
As an incoming head coach, many were waiting to see how Mike Vrabel would approach having all this money at his disposal.
In a press conference earlier today, Vrabel made it clear that the Patriots would not sit on their hands in free agency by saying “we want to be aggressive” when talking about the team’s free agency strategy.
New England has been aggressive in free agency in recent seasons, to no great effect. That means while the message is reassuring, the team still needs to use their money correctly.
The good thing about having a lot of needs is it is hard to mess up given any of the top players should help the team out. This free agency class seems promising depending on who gets franchise tagged.
The team can address needs at premium positions like pass rush and offensive line with some young and talented players, such as Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith (25), Los Angeles Rams tackle Alaric Jackson (26), and Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Josh Sweat (27).
With the cap space, the Patriots have and the new positive atmosphere heading into this season, they have a chance to turn things around quickly as long as quarterback Drake Maye continues to live up to the hype.
