Sheryl Swoopes Clarifies That Caitlin Clark Is Not Her Enemy
Sheryl Swoopes, who has been labeled a Caitlin Clark critic, recently addressed the rumors about her feelings toward the Indiana rookie in an attempt to clear the air.
Swoopes, who has previously expressed criticism of Clark, recently claimed that some of her Fever teammates don’t enjoy playing with her due to the negative attention from her fans. However, she decided to clarify her stance on Unapologetically Angel, a podcast hosted by Clark’s rookie rival, Angel Reese.

“When people bring up Sheryl Swoopes and Caitlin Clark, it’s like, ‘Oh, Sheryl doesn’t like her,’” Swoopes told Reese. “All of that is just stupid to me. It’s not true. It’s all nonsense. And we’re all part of the Nike family. A lot of what people are saying just doesn’t exist.”
Swoopes went on to express her frustration over the false narrative. “I’m tired of it,” she said, with Reese agreeing, “It’s tiring.” Swoopes added that she imagines Clark is also exhausted by the drama.
The WNBA legend did admit she made a misstep when discussing Clark earlier in the year. “The only time I messed up talking about Caitlin was on a podcast in February, and I apologized for that. But people still say, ‘Nope, you hate her.’”
Toward the end of the episode, Swoopes praised Clark. “I’m going to give Caitlin Clark her flowers,” she said. “What she’s done coming into this league has brought more attention, whether you like it or not. More eyes, more marketing—people just want to watch the game and talk about it.”
