Derrick Rose mentions who made him fall in love with basketball… See More

Former NBA MVP and Chicago Bulls standout Derrick Rose announced his retirement from the league on Thursday morning after an impressive 15-season career.

Rose hinted at the news in an Instagram post, writing, “The psychological assumption automatically provides the means to fulfill the dream desire.”

Throughout his career, Rose played for several teams, including the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Detroit Pistons. In addition to his Instagram post, he placed ads in newspapers across these six cities, expressing his heartfelt appreciation for basketball.

The Bulls paid tribute by sharing a video on X (formerly Twitter), honoring Rose’s journey from a young Englewood kid to a Chicago icon.

Rose, the top pick of the 2008 NBA draft, quickly made his mark as one of the league’s best and most electrifying players. He earned Rookie of the Year honors at just 20 years old with the Bulls and became an All-Star the following season.

In 2011, Rose truly emerged, becoming the youngest player ever to win the MVP award.

However, his promising career trajectory was disrupted by multiple injuries, limiting him to only 39 games during the 2011-12 season. In the first round of that year’s playoffs, Rose tore his ACL, causing him to miss the entire 2012-13 season.

Though Rose returned from the injury, he wasn’t the same player and spent the rest of his career moving between five teams. Despite this, he experienced a late-career resurgence as a key bench player for the Timberwolves, Pistons, and Knicks.

“Basketball has always been my first love,” Rose told NBA Insider Chris Haynes. “As a teenager, my dream was to make it to the NBA, and I did that. This isn’t a farewell to the sport I love, but rather a thank you.”
