Those who are currently making their way down to London from West Yorkshire will be hoping Leeds give a better account of themselves at the Emirates today than they did last August.
Farke’s men were rolled over far too easily in that game as we lost 5-0.
But we all know now we’re a far trickier side for opposition teams to come up against. Hopefully this proves to be the case during our game against Arsenal.
In his latest Premier League predictions column for Metro, Shearer was full of praise for the way Leeds have started the season.
The former England striker has not been surprised to see us succeed so far this campaign; however, Shearer still doesn’t believe we will pick up a positive result today.
“I think Leeds have been really good. That’s not really a surprise because I think I had them just above mid-table in my season predictions,” Shearer said.
“They’re a good team, they’ve signed some good players, and they’ve had a really good start.
“Despite Leeds’ good start, I think Arsenal will have to bounce back after that Brighton defeat, and I think they will bounce back, so I’m going for a home win.”
Opta’s supercomputer agrees with Alan Shearer
Shearer is not the only pundit to predict us to lose today, which will come as no shock.
Chris Sutton tipped us to give Arsenal a “stern test” but ultimately lose 2-0, which would be a major improvement on the performance we showed last season.
Unsurprisingly, Opta’s supercomputer also has us as heavy underdogs going into the game.
According to their data, Arsenal have a 67% chance of winning and ending our unbeaten start to the season. United’s chances of winning sit at just 14.4%, whilst the chance of us returning to West Yorkshire with a point is said to be 18.6%.
It goes without saying that a draw would be a phenomenal result. However, the most important thing I’m looking for today is that we actually compete with Arsenal at some stage in the game.
We didn’t at all last season, with the Gunners putting nine goals past us without reply. I’m not saying we need to win, but at least let them know they’re in a game.
