Redick clarified: “It’s funny, because when people hear about LeBron playing off the ball, they think it means he won’t have it at all. LeBron is one of the smartest players, and the idea is to use him as a screener and get him the ball in spots where he can both facilitate and score.
That’s what I mean by off the ball. It doesn’t mean he’ll be bringing the ball up and running a pick-and-roll every time. That’s not how we’ll play.”
While many coaches have relied on LeBron’s immense mental and physical gifts by letting him dominate as a ball handler, Redick’s idea of using him as a screener, cutter, and outlet option could unlock new matchup opportunities.
