Medical underway in Glasgow for Rangers, Danny Rohl to seal his first signing as add-ons fully agreed

Posted on January 14, 2026 by Fasty
Rangers have finally woken from their January slumber and kicked into action in the winter transfer window.

Although Danny Rohl has overseen a major transformation in Rangers’ form, the German boss has every right to still think his squad needs adding to after what was a disastrous summer transfer window, thanks to Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell.

There’s no doubt that the Gers are back in the Scottish Premiership title race, but even with that, there are still major flaws in Rohl‘s squad that need fixing before the transfer window closes on 2 February.

And it seems that the first port of call for Rohl is to improve Rangers’ defensive options.

Tuur Rommens in Scotland after Rangers agree deal with Westerlo

Rangers are now on the verge of signing Tuur Rommens from Belgian club KCV Westerlo.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri via X, Rommens is now in Glasgow and undergoing a medical on Thursday night, ahead of completing a permanent move to Ibrox.

Rommens has played 15 times for Westerlo this season in the Jupiler Pro League and looks set to add a new left-back option for Rohl.

Tavolieri adds that Rangers are paying an initial fee worth £2.6million for the 22-year-old, while Westerlo could also receive an extra £430,000 in the future due to performance-related add-ons.

It is understood that the former Genk full-back is going to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Scottish Premiership giants.

As it stands, Brentford loanee Jayden Meghoma is the Govan club’s only option at left-back, with Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons and Dujon Sterling also able to fill in there, albeit in their lesser-preferred roles.

What’s Danny Rohl said about Rommens?

Rohl has already admitted that he wants a new left-back this month.

Speaking on 2 January, the Rangers boss said that he’s happy with the full-back options he currently has, but added that “it would be nice to have another left-footed player at left-back”.

Rommens is, of course, a natural left-footed left-back.

Rommens has also spoken about the potential move to Ibrox himself.

“I don’t know anything about any transfer to Rangers,” he said.

“We’ll have to wait and see.”

And now it seems like we are seeing that the Belgian’s switch to Scotland is all but done, and Rohl’s first January transfer wish has come true.
