Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett may just be the most dominant pass-rusher in the NFL right now.
So it stands to reason that if an NFL team has an opportunity to take a prospect tabbed as “the next Myles Garrett” in the 2025 NFL draft, it would be foolish not to do so.
Texas A&M edge-rusher Shemar Stewart is a player many scouts have been comparing to Garrett, and not just because they went to the same school either. As NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah noted Thursday at the combine in Indianapolis, both players share similar measurables.
Garrett is 6-foot-4 and 272 pounds, while Stewart is 6-foot-5 and 276 pounds. They both have a similar wingspan (Garrett 82.25 inches, Stewart 84.75 inches), vertical jump (Garrett 41 inches, Stewart 40 inches), and broad jump (Garrett 10 feet, eight inches, Stewart 10 feet, 11 inches, but the big difference between the two is their college production.
Garrett was unquestionably the more dominant player heading into the draft, totaling 145 tackles, 49 tackles for loss, and 32.5 sacks to Stewart’s 65 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
But there is one thing Stewart accomplished at the NFL combine that puts him in the same category as Garrett — his 9.99 relative athletic score (RAS). In fact, Stewart’s RAS score is the third-highest of the 1,802 defensive ends tested at the combine since 1987.
Garrett also had a 9.99 RAS at the 2017 combine, and he was the No. 1 overall pick in his draft class. Stewart’s score is higher than several other notable edge-rushers who were high picks in their draft year including Jevon Kearse (9.97) and Jadeveon Clowney (9.76).
While Stewart likely won’t be picked as high as the others, he will likely go somewhere in the first round in April. Jeremiah has him going 27th overall to the Baltimore Ravens in his latest mock draft, while both CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus have him going No. 9 overall to the New Orleans Saints in their respective mock drafts.
